Fifteen schools across Grand Cayman took to the pitch on 24 April, marking the start of the 2026 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition. Organizers have split the participants into two zones for the tournament, which will run through June, featuring specialized match formats for both boys' and girls' leagues.
The Department of Education Services, the Department of Sports, and the Cayman Cricket Association oversee the event, with backing from the Caribbean Utilities Company. Matches follow a condensed format: boys play 12 overs, while girls play eight. Each team fields 11 players on pitches roughly half the size of a standard football field. Games are scheduled for Friday afternoons at various school and sports venues.Opening day results saw Marie Martin Primary record the highest score, defeating Footsteps School 114 to 94 in the boys' league. In the girls' division, competitive margins remained tight, with Marie Martin Primary edging out Footsteps 60 to 57, and Cayman Prep A narrowly defeating Cayman Prep B by a single run. Several matches were postponed, including encounters involving Edna Moyle Primary and Sir John A. Cumber Primary. The competition resumes on 8 May with a full slate of games across the island.
