Stephen van Rooyen, current head of VodafoneZiggo, will take the helm of Ziggo Group, a newly formed entity merging Liberty Global’s Dutch and Belgian operations. The move signals a strategic consolidation for the 13-million-customer business, which prepares for an Amsterdam stock market listing scheduled for 2027.
Van Rooyen, a former senior executive at Sky, earned the promotion after overseeing a successful turnaround at VodafoneZiggo since September 2024. His tenure focused on stabilizing the subscriber base and revitalizing brand identity. Alongside him, Jany Fruytier, currently the CFO at Swiss operator Sunrise, will step into the same role for the combined group. Both executives begin their new positions on September 1.While the group will maintain local management and branding for its constituent parts, the merger aims to leverage economies of scale in procurement and artificial intelligence integration. Van Rooyen intends to maintain current growth momentum, highlighted by upcoming expansions in football broadcast offerings. He views the integration of these locally rooted businesses as a distinct advantage for competing in the broader European market.
