The Truman Bodden Sports Complex will shut its gates for six months starting in July, marking the beginning of a comprehensive redevelopment aimed at achieving international standards. The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage announced the overhaul, which seeks to modernize the facility for elite athletes and regional competition hosting.
The project focuses on replacing the aging athletics track with a high-performance surface capable of hosting international events. Crews will also reconstruct the main playing field, integrating advanced drainage systems to enhance durability and safety. Beyond the pitch, the renovation targets the grandstands for structural and safety improvements, alongside broader infrastructure upgrades designed to bolster the venue's overall resilience.Sports Minister Isaac Rankine emphasized that the investment extends beyond mere construction. He described the initiative as a commitment to Caymanian athletes, intended to foster local talent and provide a platform that matches the islands' growing sporting ambitions. While the ministry has yet to disclose the project's total cost or specific procurement details, officials pledged to minimize the impact on school programs and sporting associations during the six-month closure. Further updates are expected as the construction schedule firms up.
