Michael Stanley-Jones
Michael Stanley-Jones serves as a Programme Management Officer with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). Currently based in Nairobi, he is part of the Ecosystems Integration Branch within UNDP/UNEP Poverty-Environment Action for Sustainable Development Goals (2018-2022). Michael's work involvesaddressing environmental challenges and integrating sustainable development goals.
In addition to his current role, he playeda crucial part in founding and serving as the co-Secretary of the UN Alliancefor Sustainable Fashion from July 2019 to September 2020. In this capacity, he advocated for the alignment of the textile and apparel industries with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
With a rich background in environmental governance, Michael Stanley-Jones has previously served in roles such as Public Information Officer and Press Liaison for the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions from 2009 to 2014. These global treaties focus on hazardous chemicals and wastes, reflecting his commitment toaddressing environmental issues at a global level. Furthermore, his contributions to the UN Economic Commission for Europe in the Secretariat of the Aarhus Convention from 2004 to 2009 showcased his dedication to promoting access to information, public participation, and justice in environmental matters.
Michael holds a B.A. in Government from San Jose State University (California State University) and a Master of Arts in Politics from The Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California. Beyond his professional pursuits, he expresses a passion for comedy, nature, and poetry,highlighting a well-rounded and diverse set of interests.
