Ben Horowitz

Ben Horowitz is an American entrepreneur, investor, author, and technology executive. He is best known as the co-founder and general partner of the venture capital firmAndreessen Horowitz, which he established withMarc Andreessento support technology startups and growth companies. Ben is also a former CEO and co-founder of Opsware, a company that provided enterprise software solutions and was later acquired by Hewlett-Packard for $1.6 billion.

Before starting Andreessen Horowitz, Ben co-founded Loudcloud, a company that offered infrastructure and application hosting services to major organisations such asFord,Nike, News Corporation, and the United States Army. As the company evolved, he led its transformation into Opsware by selling the hosting business and focusing fully on software. Under his leadership, Opsware expanded to serve hundreds of enterprise customers and reached over $100 million in annual revenue. Following its acquisition by Hewlett-Packard, Ben worked as Vice President and General Manager within HP Software, where he managed a large division with thousands of employees.

Through Andreessen Horowitz, Ben has invested in leading companies, including Facebook, Twitter, GitHub,Pinterest, Airbnb, Coinbase, and many others. He continues to work closely with startup founders and CEOs, offering guidance in areas such as leadership, strategy, and scaling businesses.

Ben is also a published author. His first book, The Hard Thing About Hard Things, offers practical advice for running startups. His second book, What You Do Is Who You Are, explores how to build and maintain strong business cultures. He is active in public discussions on company building, technology trends, and management through podcasts, talks, and written content.

Ben was born in London, England, and raised in Berkeley, California. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Columbia University and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
