Martin Bartlam

Martin is a British legal expert with over 35 years of experience in international law, structured finance, and fintech. He is the Founder and CEO of Coded Law, a legal technology business, and currently serves as Head of Business Affairs and General Legal Counsel at Xfinite Global Plc, part of the Eros Group, where he works on technology-led media projects including Immerso and Eros Technologies Plc.

Martin was a Partner atDLA Piper, a global law firm with offices in over 40 countries, where he co-chaired the Global Fintech Group and led the international Finance, Projects and Restructuring practice, managing a team of around 600 lawyers. He is recognised in the Legal 500’s Hall of Fame for FinTech and has advised funds, companies, start-ups, and financial institutions on finance structuring, digital assets, and capital markets.

Prior to DLA Piper, he served as London Managing Partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP and led their finance practice. He also held partner roles at Jones Day and worked in investment banking as Head of Structured Products at Calyon Investment Bank (Credit Agricole) inLondonandParis. Earlier in his career, he worked at Slaughter and May and Denton Wilde Sapte.

Martin has held advisory roles such as Senior Advisor at Corinthian Digital Asset Management Limited and General Counsel at Global Digital Finance, a non-profit industry body. He also mentored on the FCA’s Digital Sandbox programme, supporting innovation in financial services.Martin Bartlam's publications include several key articles in the field of finance and technology. These include "Understanding the Basics of European Marketplace Lending," "Can Blockchain Live Up to the Hype?," and "FinTech - Redefining the Finance Sector," all published in 2016. He has also written "EBA Set Out Principles for Qualifying Securitisation" in 2015, and "Changes in Rating Agency Counterparty Criteria" in 2013. All of these articles were published inGlobal Financial Markets Insight.

He is a graduate of King’s College London. Martin has published several articles on fintech, blockchain, marketplace lending, and structured finance, contributing to the Global Financial Markets Insight platform. He is known for combining legal expertise with emerging technology to support regulatory compliance and innovation in digital finance. He has spoken at events such as the LMA,UCLCentre for Blockchain Technologies, and Global ABS.
