Birgitte Andersen
Professor Birgitte Andersen is the CEO and Founder of the Big Innovation Centre (BIC), a London-based think-tank and consultancy focused on innovation and the digital economy. Since founding BIC in 2011, she has been instrumental in shaping its role as a leading innovation hub in the UK and beyond. As an expert in business model innovation and intellectual property governance, she has worked with thought leaders and innovative companies worldwide, and her research is widely published in journals and government reports.
Professor Andersen also holds the position of Professor of Economics and Management of Innovation at the University of London, Birkbeck, where she established the Electronic Commerce programme in 2000. She is a recognised authority in AI, blockchain, and digital finance, and has led the Secretariat for three All-Party Parliamentary Groups in the UK Parliament on these topics.
Her advisory roles extend internationally, having contributed to the OECD, UN, and WIPO, and she has served as an expert defence witness in UK courts on intellectual property matters. She has also represented the EU Expert Group on Knowledge Transfer and Open Innovation, and sat on the Horizon 2020 Expert Advisory Panel.
In addition to her role at BIC, she has been involved in shaping digital government strategies for the Arab League since 2018. Her work has earned her recognition in the media, including appearances on BBC World, Al Jazeera, Bloomberg, and Sky News. Professor Andersen continues to lead BIC with a vision to create an open innovation and investment hub, focusing on sustainable and inclusive technological advancement.
