Robert M. Davis
Rob Davis is an accomplished executive who currently serves as the chairman of the board and chief executive officer (CEO) ofMerck, a leading global pharmaceutical company. With a diverse background in finance, operations, and leadership, Davis has played a pivotal role in shaping Merck's success.
Prior to his current position, Davis held several key roles within Merck.He served as the president, overseeing the company's operating divisions, including Human Health, Animal Health, Manufacturing, and Merck Research Laboratories. Before that,he held the position of executive vice president of Global Servicesandserved as the company's chief financial officer (CFO).
Davis joined Merck in 2014as the CFO and was entrusted with additional responsibilities such as real estate operations, corporate strategy, and business development. In 2016, he expanded his role to include information technology and procurement, establishing the Global Services division. In recognition of his leadership and contributions,Davis was appointed president in April 2021and assumed the role of CEO and board member on July 1, 2021. He further ascended to the position of chairman of the board on December 1, 2022.
Before joining Merck,Davis held prominent positions at Baxter, a global healthcare company. His roles at Baxter included corporate vice president and president of the medical products business, president of the renal business, CFO, and treasurer. Prior to his tenure at Baxter, Davis spent 14 years at Eli Lilly and Company, where he held various positions of increasing responsibility.
Beyond his commitments at Merck,Davis serves on the board of directors for Duke Energy Corporation, one of the largest energy-holding companies in the United States. Within Duke Energy, he chairs the finance and risk management committee and contributes to the corporate governance committee. Additionally, he is a board member of Project Hope, a nonprofit organization focused on empowering healthcare workers to deliver expert care globally. Davis also serves as a board member of Catalyst, a global nonprofit promoting equal access to career opportunities and leadership for women.
Davis earned his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and holds an M.B.A. fromNorthwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He obtained his bachelor's degree in finance fromMiami University. With his extensive experience and multidimensional expertise, Davis continues to make significant contributions to the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry, driving Merck's growth and advancing the company's mission to improve human health worldwide.
