Prof. Aharon Palmon
Prof. Aharon Palmon is a distinguished figure in the field of dental and medical research, currently serving as the Vice President for Research and Development at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Born in Israel, he pursued his academic career at the Hebrew University, earning his DMD diploma in 1988 and a Ph.D. in Cellular Biology in 1991. Following a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Weizmann Institute, he joined the Institute of Dental Sciences at the Hebrew University.
Prof. Palmon has made significant contributions to the field of oral fluid diagnostics, developing technologies that leverage the diagnostic potential of Oral Fluids (OF) for detecting both local and systemic diseases. His work, supported by prominent research agencies such as the Israeli Science Foundation, the United States-Israel Binational Science Foundation, and the German-Israel Science Foundation, emphasises the non-invasive, cost-effective, and efficient nature of using OF as a diagnostic tool.
In addition to his research, Prof. Palmon founded Salignostics, a Hebrew University spin-off company aimed at translating his research on Oral Fluids into practical, home-use rapid diagnostic tests. His entrepreneurial spirit underscores his commitment to bridging the gap between academic research and real-world applications.
Throughout his career, Prof. Palmon has authored numerous influential publications and received several prestigious awards, recognising his contributions to scientific research and innovation.
